AUSTIN-TATIOUS RED HAT SOCIETY NEWSLETTER ¤ APRIL 2001 Our meeting April 21st at Threadgill's was a huge success, thanks in part to our newly purchased "Mr. Mike" and his gal, "Amp", helping FQM, Val, and other speakers address the group without yelling. The 71 ladies present were mostly able to hear what was being said - finally! In March, the PA System collection for the system purchase was not sufficient to cover the total cost. All money collected and the raffle sales money came to $165.50. Val used all the money collected at the March meeting and supplemented her own funds to purchase the PA System, cover the outstanding operation costs from the March meeting, and all of the operation costs for the April meeting. A collection for raffle gifts and for the PA system was made. As a result of these ticket sales, passing the hat, and some generous members who wrote checks, we only have a deficit of $80.00; Val plans to continue to float ARHS a loan until we are out of the red. At future meetings we will have more raffles, offer items for sale and accept donations to hopefully get us back in the black. Status of Directory Project: Due to such rapid growth, it is impossible to keep up with the membership rolls. The Guest Book is not being signed by all attendees at each meeting. Val's RSVP records show 224 ladies have indicated they would be attending a meeting. Adding these names to the membership roll, contacting each person by phone or e-mail for address/phone/email information has become a huge task. Because of this, publication of the Directory at this time is not feasible. The cost to print and distribute the Directory is also an issue while we are operating in the red. Val needs volunteers who will assist in compiling the Directory. Ladies with Excel Spreadsheet experience are needed, and Red Hatters willing to call others to verify information are needed. Please contact Val if you can help. Committee to Form Committee Survey Results:The survey results have been tabulated. Many want to do things and a few volunteered to act as Committee Coordinators. A Committee Coordinator would take the list of those interested in a particular event, such as going to the theatre or forming a Bridge group, and call everyone to set up a date/time/place. Help is also needed with adding the contact information on the lists. There were 17 categories of interests, with many variables; currently, only Val is working on the lists and she needs some help. Please contact Val if you can help with this or be a Coordinator. Zilker Garden Festival: Twenty-five Red Hatters and their friends prepaid for advanced tickets which were sent to them upon purchase. Fifteen ladies met at the Zilker Botanical Garden Festival Gate on Saturday, March 31st. Everyone had a great time shopping, admiring the gardens, and getting to know each other a little better. Several purchased fan hats which are perfect for the hot summer days. Georgetown Red Poppy Festival Parade: Ten ladies from Georgetown, Round Rock and Austin rode in the parade and had a blast! The parade watchers loved us, and when the announcer told who and what we are all about, the crowd cheered us! Following the parade, Val, Katinka Koeninger and Linda Westfeldt, all from Austin, had lunch and shopped at the Red Poppy Craft fair. Many ladies approached the 3 Red Hatters for more information about the club and invitations were handed out to those who showed interest. Val created and printed 200 Invitations with the local and national web sites addresses, Red Hat Hotline and Val's email address. The poem Warning by Jenny Joseph was printed on the back of the invitation. Now the ladies from Georgetown and Liberty Hill are branching out to form a new group and it is rumored that groups are starting in Round Rock and Sun City. NOTES OF THANKS: Janie Dameron returned to April's get-together, after having to miss the March meeting due to her recent knee replacement surgery. Janie sends her heartfelt thanks to all of you for the get well cards she received via email and snail mail. She said the cards and well wishes really helped to keep her spirits up as she was convalescing and she truly appreciates the outpouring of well wishes and encouraging words from her Red Hat Sisters. Val wants everyone to know how much she appreciates those ladies who offer to help at each meeting. FQM does not always remember all the names of everyone who assists, and isn't really sure she has thanked each and every one of them personally at the meetings. She says that without these ladies who just step up and ask "what can I do", she would never be able to conduct the meeting. Val wants all of you to know how deeply appreciated YOU are. Volunteers are always needed and welcome. If selling raffle tickets is something you would like to do (it's a great way to meet other Red Hatters), or assist in greeting guests as they arrive, manning the guest book and making sure all the ladies get a name tag, please come early and let it be known you want to help. These are all great ways to easily mix, mingle and meet new people. Upcoming Events Thursday, May 3,at 6pm: Opening Ceremonies for the Capital Area Games. The ceremony will be at the Dell Jewish Community Campus at 7300 Hart Lane, Austin, Texas 78731. Fifteen Red Hatters have already signed up to attend; call or email Val if you plan to be there but didn't indicate that at the last luncheon. Please wear Red Hat/Purple attire, or Pink Hat/Lavender attire so everyone knows who we are. NEXT Austin-tatious Red Hat Luncheon: Saturday, May 12, 1:00 PM at Threadgill's World Headquarters. 301 W. Help wanted - Graphic artist/women with experience in production camera ready art and production of printed materials, marketing and distribution of new products, and purchasing or purchasing/contract negotiations for goods and services to assist in a project that has been suggested. Call Val to discuss. Membership and email list. To assist in the production of the Directory Project, please email or call Val with your address, email address and phone number. This will help to determine who is a member, and assure everyone who wants to be included in the Austin-tatious Red Hat Directory is listed correctly. Val knows she doesn't have everyone listed, and we are not sure everyone actually wants to be listed. Please help us. Your response will determine if you're a member of Austin-tatious Red Hat Society. Those who do not respond, will be dropped from the proposed Directory. Email list If you are on the email list and are not interested in participating in the Austin-tatious Red Hat Society or to continue receiving email news and announcements, please let us know. We will be most happy to remove your name from the list. Please send an email to Bobbie Mabry, the E-Mail Female at arhs@austin.rr.com requesting your removal. We appreciate you helping us keep our list up to date. We plan to have lots more fun in the upcoming months and we hope you will join us! Until next time, Ruby, the Parrot
