Fun in February!

Austin-tatious Red Hat Society's 2nd Meeting was held at the China Star Restaurant in Austin, TX with 74 members in attendance. The food was fabulous. The China Star presented a Buffet of delicious delicacies and desserts fit for a Royal Feast

Hats off to the Planning Committee: Linda Cline, Kathie French-Todd, Jeanne Primeaux, Christine Metze, and Sandra Fried, for selecting such a lovely restaurant and organizing the registration process and information packages. Each package came with our name tags preprinted and decorated. And included the Agenda, a Demographic Study of Where Austin's Red Hatters live, a copy of the Poem "Warning" and a Survey from the Planning Committee.

The registration process enabled us to quickly deal with those matters and attend to the disorder of the day; posing for pictures, impromptu introductions, and exchanges of hat compliments, the gifting and trading of Mardi Gras Beads and finding a place to sit for lunch, We entertained several Guests: From Amarillo, TX: Sandra Sims from Amarillo's Audacious Adorables a.k.a. Nanny of the Royal Money Bag joined us. Sandra showed off a beautiful quilted banner she made for her group. She will present it at their inaugural meeting on February 14th.

From the Austin American Statesman: Sharyn Wizda joined us and talked with several of the ladies. Look for an article about our chapter to appear in the Austin American Statesman a week or two before the next meeting. Sharyn who qualifies as a Red Hat by age and being of 'like mind' appeared to really enjoy our company and was entertained by our antics as we celebrated the January and February birthdays.

There were many newcomers and each had an opportunity to stand and introduce herself. All were warmly welcomed. One newcomer who stands out where ever she goes in her many hats is Kay Killen, Founder of The Hat Society: Devoted to the Wear, Care, Promotion and Preservation of Hats.

Kay gave of a demonstration on how to set your hat on your head so it does not get damaged while handling. Explained how to measure your head to get your 'hat size' and spoke briefly about her mission.

Kay brought with her a Survey she is conducting and for any who are so inclined to complete. She also spoke of an upcoming Hat Event she is planning. It will be Everything Hats! There will be vendors of hats and hat-related items. Kay is also hat photo journalist and we enjoyed posing for her.

Val, FQM brought in the hatpins she made. Several who needed hatpins purchased some of Val's royal creations. A hat was purchased through E-bay auction which didn't suit the Red Hat owner. It was shown and offered for sale and the Red Hat now has a new owner. The Red Hat and the Red Hatter look fabulous together.

Old Business: Titles: All were invited to give them selves a title. Linda Ritzen will now be known as Duchess of Ritz. Members were invited to e-mail their title to Val once they have chosen one. Pat in the Hat has decided to be have the title of Webmistress.

New Business: Austin-tatious Red Hat Society is officially registered with the National Red Hat Society and will be listed on the Queen Mother Board Forums under Chapter Locations The Committee to form Committees distributed their survey. It was combined with the Directory Project.

Everyone was asked to proof their listing and indicate what information they wanted published in the Austin-tatious Red Hat Directory.

The Committee to Form Committees survey was collected and those who were not in attendance will be mailed a survey if their address is on file. The data will be compiled and posted on the www.sulfurcreek.com website on our web page. The purpose of the survey is to form special interest groups and plan special events that are of interest to the members. The goal is to bring those like minded individuals together, to pursue like minded interests and promote sisterly fun.

Cheryl Johnson then introduced Red Hat Recommendations. Members were asked to list service providers and medical/dental providers they had done business with or received excellent care from. Red Hat Recommendations will be posted on the web page or you can call the Red Hat Hotline. If you have Recommendations to make they can be submitted to Val at effholme@austin.rr.com at anytime. Please state if the business or Doctor, Dentist is located in the North Austin area or South Austin area. E-mail Val for a complete list of the categories or to suggest categories not listed.

The Planning Committee awarded the door prizes. The winners and what they won was not noted. E-mailPat in the Hat and tell her if you won and what you won so we can document it.

Nurse Cap suggested we begin Random Acts of Red Hat Kindness.

The next meeting will be held Saturday, March 10th at a location yet to be determined.
Hatfully Yours, Val, FQM
